ABOUT JACQUI
Jacqui's interest in Arabic Dancing started some 8 years ago. She has performed on stage, at local and regional dance events in the South West and given talks and demonstrations within the local community. Jacqui has been taught by well established and respected teachers based in the UK and Egypt. She visits Egypt as often as possible and still attends workshops for her own professional development and because there is always something new and exciting to learn about this beautiful dance form. Jacqui's is always aiming to improve her style, which is mainly Egyptian influenced. Some of her greatest inspiration has come from the great Egyptian performers of the past; Naima Akif, Samia Gamal , and more recently Asa Sherif, Mona Said, Zoheir Zaki, Fifi Abdou, Lucy ,Randa Kamel and Dina. She also loves to watch Brazillian dancer Soraya. Jacqui has also taken inspiration and direction from the teachers of the Raqs Sharqi Society.
Jacqui encourages dance students to attend workshops and major dance related events in this country and also to visit Egypt if they can to expand their knowledge and understanding of the dance and its background. Jacqui always aims to promote Arabic Dancing in a positive way and to make it as accessible to women of all age groups, in all areas. She has worked to set up and promote dance classes in some more rural areas. She has also, through her dance groups, raised money for the local charity The Children's Hospice South West. She sees this as an exciting time for Arabic dance in Devon and Cornwall as it grows in popularity. Jacqui and her dance groups are always keen to get out there and 'shimmy their hips'. If you are interested in discussing corporate entertainment, business events, special occasions, weddings or community events for Jacqui or her dance group to perform at, please feel free to contact her. |
